The capital letters weren't necessary, but I'll reply anyways.
The magazine states that you can take a Canthan or Tyrian character to do the quest. So that character can get the minipet. I assume you can then take the minipet to other explorable areas and missions where other people can see it.
Now what if someone does this and sells the minipet, during the preview event, at a place like Ascalon City or Piken Square? And the buyer doesn't know that the minipet will disappear after the event, which the buyer may not be aware of, because the seller is not saying so? And the buyer pays the gold and the seller gets the gold. The preview event is done and the buyer is ripped off. Nightfall comes out and the seller does the quest again and gets a permanent minipet.
That was my concern. Understand now?

Players can't take Tyrian chars to do the quest. So unless he gets the money at piken square, then transfers the pet somewhere in Elona, this won't happen.
But then if that was the case, why not log off after recieving payment, and never give the buyer the pet?

On page 96 it says:
"Now launch Guild Wars Nightfall and travel by ship to Kamadan, the port city for Elona if you're importing your character from Guild Wars Prophecies or Factions, or start a brand new character in Nightfall and head to Kamadan."

that is the route for the retail after merging the new key.
here is the event info
Quote:
HOW TO ACCESS
To access the PvE part you must create a new roleplaying character with homeland Elona. To do this, you need a free character slot ...
either on an existing GW Prophecies or Factions account
or on an existing preview event account (for example accounts created for the Factions PvE preview. These test accounts are still functional and you can log into them at any time.)
or on a newly created Nightfall preview account. (ArenaNet is expected to hand out a special access key for creation of such accounts prior to the Nightfall event.)
To access the PvP part you may create a new PvP character. This can be done on an existing account (which means you may keep the faction you gained during the event) or a preview account (as explained for PvE).

Alright I must have misread that. I don't think I'll bother with the whole event thing. Just release the game and that's that. At this point I assume the PC Gamer is at least good for the minipet(and quest to get it) in the actual game out in October, which would generally be unavailable otherwise? Otherwise I'm taking this rag back to the bookstore. Actually I'll see if I can get the code removed from my account before getting my refund.

a rep stated that when you enter the retail key you do the quest over and keep the pet.
it is hard to misinterpret that

I didn't misread that part and that's why I was afraid of people selling minipets that would disappear after a certain date. Wasn't there some post on Guru auctions trying to sell a key code from the magazine, advertising it as the minipet?
Basically I'm just a little upset that it's not the simple "get the magazine and you have a minipet, there it's done" deal that it was made out to be when the October issue got everyone excited about this. The cover of the new issue says "Buy this mag for an exclusive... mission and mini-pet." If the minipet is permanent after waiting until October, and the magazine is pretty much the only way to get it(other than buying ingame), then fine I'm satisfied although it was made out to look like we'd get a minipet right now. As in one we keep, no different from the other minipets.

Hey penguo, does that mean you found the mini-pet key in your magazine after all? I hope so!
EDIT: I don't know how I forgot to mention this earlier, but
There ARE floating palaces in Nightfall!!!!!!
I know that was a popular wish, so I hope lots of people are happy when we get to see them in-game.

Yes....it was crazy.

This is a Nightfall promo item... Thus they're not going to let just anyone who buys the mag get the bet. Thats not the point of a promo item. I think that takes care of that...

A thought about Nightfall
So I was reading the PC Gamer and something was mentioned about the Dervish that got me thinking. It states that the Dervishes Area of Effect damage is caused in part by the blades that are hung from it's armor. Wouldn't it be cool if you could add things like different blades and upgrades to your armor as a dervish to create more damage?

If that is true, and I see no reason for it not to be (considering the look of the armor with giant blades and various other implements of destruction hanging down from the waist), then we might finally see armors with damage increase modifiers. Maybe even some unique and interesting other effects like speed buffs and the like.
Me likey!

Well that's actually really weird, because you can have the same effect with their sythe even when you're not a dervish.
Though it makes you think why assassins even have all those daggers strapped all over them.

Well, yeah, exactly! That's why I suggest they have Dervish armor that gives a damage bonus, perhaps only while weilding a Scythe? Sure, that works.
The Assassin armor... well I can't explain that. Maybe they're not real daggers, but just dagger-looking protrusions coming off the armor...

Those are the daggers they use for the Dancing Daggers skill
And I was thinking the same thing about the Dervish armor after I read that article.

That would be nice if Dervish hit 1 more target then other classes when using a scythe or if they did a bit more damage with them.

And at the same time, make the thorny protrusions from the Nec's Fissure armor do some actual poison damage, make the Ranger's Frostbound armor give surrounding Allies some protection against cold too (they can snuggle into the Rangers furry coat with ease), and don't forget to give the Female Mesmers armor some kind of distracting ability....
Don't get me wrong maedrarle, I like the idea, but when the dev. team starts to add some mods on the Dervish armor, soon people start wanting mods for the armor of the other professions too. Of course, this wouldn't be a problem if they were so kind to add mods to these armors, but I don't think this is going to happen soon...

I know, but it was an interesting thought that sprung from the PC Gamer issue. Would add a whole new level to the mod market wouldn't it? :P
Oh and the only reason the dervish armor would do aoe damage is because the cloth spreads out when attacking. Fow armor would have an empathy effect. :P

Sorry, I haven't read all thread. Any mention in the magazine about we can run in Elona? I like a LOT the freedom of running all map when you already finished game once.
